چکیده

25 We found a low prevalence (0.6%) of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae 26 (CPE) in fecal microbiota of companion dogs. A single VIM-1-producing K. pneumoniae 27 isolate belonging to the ST2090 was detected. blaVIM-1 was carried on a class 1 integron 28 and an untypable ~ 48 kb plasmid. Emergence and spread of CPE in this group of 29 animals may represent a threat to public health in human and veterinary medicine. 30 This finding supports the need of active surveillance studies in companion animals that 31 live close to humans as interspecies transmission may occur within the same 32 household. 33

Carbapenemase-producing bacteria in companion animals: a public health concern on the horizon.

Clinical infections attributed to carbapenemase-producing bacteria are a pressing public health concern owing to limited therapeutic options and linked antimicrobial resistance. In recent years, studies have reported the emergence and spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae and their public health impact. This has been closely followed by the global dissemination of highly resistan...

Strategy for rapid detection of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae.

A prospective survey was conducted on 862 Enterobacteriaceae isolates with reduced susceptibility to carbapenems. The Carba NP test, UV spectrophotometry, and a DNA microarray were used to detect carbapenemase producers, and the results were compared to those from PCR and sequencing. The 172 carbapenemase producers were detected using the Carba NP test and UV spectrophotometry, whereas the DNA ...

Evaluation of CHROMagar™ KPC for the detection of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in rectal surveillance cultures.

In this study, the performance of the chromogenic medium CHROMagar™ KPC was evaluated and was compared with in-house-daily prepared McConkey agar plates supplemented with imipenem (1 mg/L) for the detection of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. In this surveillance study, rectal swabs were cultured on both media and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for bla(KPC) and bla(VIM) was used to ...

Increasing proportion of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae and emergence of a MCR-1 producer through a multicentric study among hospital-based and private laboratories in Belgium from September to November 2015

Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) strains have been increasingly reported in Belgium. We aimed to determine the proportion of CPE among Enterobacteriaceae isolated from hospitalised patients and community outpatients in Belgium in 2015. For the hospitalised patients, the results were compared to a previous similar survey performed in the same hospitals in 2012. Twenty-four hospit...
